Pump room on the market shore

The buildings on the shore still had an important function in the 1960's, like they always had had. The small decorative brick building in the middle of the picture had functioned as a pump room in the era of steamships. After the withdrawal of the steamships, a clinic for venereal diseases was opened in the pump room. It took quite some courage for patients to step in through that door, with the audience in the market square making a note of what their business had been, and was.
