For a long time there were two ships in Oulu that obtained a kind of maritime status: Hailuoto and Alpo. Both of them served faithfully and for a long time, until Hailuoto was lifted up to become a coffee house on the market shore, while Alpo was left at Toppila harbour waiting for its fate to be decided. Hailuoto now continues its life as a coffee house at Varjakka, Lumijoki, while Alpo's age of retirement is dependent on private support. As it is, the community would not like to take responsibility for these old ones, either.
