Most Oulu residents own the homes they live in – they have
used a mortgage or other funding to purchase their home. The
government supports owner occupancy by securing the
mortgages of private citizens. Furthermore, some of the
mortgage interest is eligible for tax deduction.

bank or a real estate company. Real estate companies and
private persons also advertise homes for sale in local
papers (for example,
Kaleva)
and on the Internet.
