Regional Central Library Activities
Oulu City Library has operated as the Regional Central Library since 1973 as per Finnish Government Decision. The library covers 34 municipalities in Northern Ostrobothnia and is the central library for municipal libraries in the region. The duties of the regional central library are:
Regional CollectionThe regional collection contains material relating to the Oulu City Library – Regional Central Library activities, of Northern Ostrobothnia and the 34 municipalities. The collection of the material began in 1973. The collection is intended for all interested parties as well as for those requiring information about Northern Ostrobothnian municipalities, history, nature, culture, etc. For further information on regional collection, please phone 044 703 7322 or contact us by e-mail maakunta.kirjasto(at)ouka.fi The collection consists of approximately 700 novels, collections of poems and short stories, plays and anthologies by past and contemporary writers and amateur writers in Northern Ostrobothnia. Moreover, the regional collection contains also village and parish histories, research and theses, memoirs and biographies, histories of various communities, municipal publications, etc. In addition to literature, the following items are purchased for the regional collection:
The material in the regional collection locates on the 3rd floor in the central library where it can be studied during library opening hours. Many of the items in the collection have copies available for borrowing on other departments in the library. FeesThere is a fee of 50 cents for interlibrary loans plus the fee charged by the owning library. Oulu City Library sends interlibrary loans to other libraries free of charge.
