Co-Operation with Schools

Libraries provide schools with professional advice on children and young people’s literature and matters relating to library services. The most important ways to co-operate are book tipping, information search and references use tutorials as well as introducing school children to library services.

Book tipping refers to introducing both fiction and non-fiction to children and young people in a way that encourages reading. Book tipping can be arranged either at the library or at school.

Information search tutorials are carried out with the help of teaching kits for children and young people to use INTRO web library and other online services. On request, upper grades can have introduction to Finnish literature reference materials in the central library.

Schools can order literature packages on fiction and/or non-fiction. The books will be dropped at the school by the mobile library van or alternatively the teacher can collect them from the library. The teacher will need a library card to borrow the items.

The library has representatives in the committee developing school libraries, literature diploma and teaching of literature as well as in an arts team publishing Kulttuurikiikari (Art Binoculars in English) web service.

Information Search and Library Use Tutorials

The librarians at the children and young people’s department and staff in branch libraries provide library use and information search tutorials for groups at the library. The librarians also tip about and introduce children and young people’s books.

Please, arrange library visits and book tipping well in advance.
