Wireless Network

Since 2003, panOulu network has provided wireless access, i.e. WLAN to the Internet for the residents and visitors of Oulu in libraries and other public locations. In 2009 panOulu extended to the Oulu regions municipalities. panOulu is accessible with WLAN-compatible tools, e.g. laptops, PDAs, and multimedia computers such as smartphones. It is free of charge and requires no username or password.

At the moment the network covers a large part of the city centre outdoors area and also some premises indoors including various city library units and the mobile library. There are more than 1200 access points in the Oulu region and the number is growing. Each access point has an accessibility range of 50 to 100 meters depending on the weather, geographical and constructional circumstances.

The access points have been entered on the City of Oulu map service. You can see the hotspots by selecting panOulu access points in the Address search menu and clicking Show on the map. You can check hotspot locations and accessibility on the panOulu site.
