Kaakkurin pinsetit

Pohjois-Pohjanmaan museo suoritti arkeologisia kaivauksia Oulun Kaakkurin Välikankaalla vuosina 1987-88. Rautakaudelle ajoittuvan kalmiston tutkimuksissa löydettiin neljästä kaivetusta röykkiöstä yhdeksän ruumis- ja kolme polttohautausta. Hautaröykkiöistä löydettiin lisäksi yli 60 esinettä, jotka ajoittuvat aikavälille 200-700 jKr. 

Kaakkurista löydettyjen esineiden joukosta on korun esikuvaksi valittu polttohautauksesta löydetyt pronssiset pinsetit 400-500-luvulta jKr. Pinsetit olivat varsin yleinen hauta-anti vanhemmalla ja keskisellä rautakaudella Suomessa. Ilmeisesti niitä on kannettu nahkahihnassa mukana.

Kaakkurin pinsettien muoto ja rakenne on yleinen, mutta pinsettien koristelu, tyylitelty kuusiaihe, on ainutlaatuinen suomalaisessa rautakautisessa löytömateriaalissa.

THE KAAKKURI TWEEZERS

The Northern Ostrobothnia Museum carried out investigations on the Iron Age cemetary of Välikangas in the Kaakkuri suburb of the City of Oulu in 1987-88.

The excavations of four cairns revealed nine inhumations and three cremations, and over 60 artefacts dated to 200-600 A. D. The inspiration for this piece of jewellery was a pair of bronze tweezers found among the artefacts of one of the Kaakkuri cremations dating from the 5th of the 6th century. Tweezers were a very common burial gift during the early and the middle Iron Age in Finland; they were probably worn on a leather string.

The form and structure of the Kaakkuri tweezers is ordinary, but the ornamentation of the tweezers, a stylized spruce-tree motif, is unique among Finnish Iron Age finds.
