From De Gamlas Hem to Villa Victor
The operations of the international activity centre began in the year
2000.
The centre moved to its current location in Heinäpää at the beginning of
2007,
and was renamed Villa Victor after the architect who designed the building,
Victor J. Sucksdorff (1866–1952).
The building was built in
1906 and represents the Finnish
Jugendstil. It was previously called “De Gamlas Hem” (“the home of the elderly”
in Swedish), because it housed a
retirement home for Swedish speaking women until the early 1980s.
The spacious building is also a valuable
architectural monument.
